Day 2 - May 20, 2026, 9:00AM to 12:00 PM (PT)
Training Description
Addiction can be understood as a response to disconnection. The disconnect, maybe from self, from others, and from a sense of meaning, safety, and purpose. When connection is disrupted, addictions often become a way to soothe pain, regulate overwhelming emotions, or create a temporary sense of relief, however short-lived. Healing, then, begins with restoring connection and building skills that support belonging, choice, regulation, and a sense of agency over one’s feelings.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to identify three destructive coping mechanisms that can be effectively addressed with DBT to reduce relapse risk among individuals struggling with addiction.
- Participants will be able to integrate core DBT principles, including dialectics, acceptance, and change, into their addiction treatment work to better support individuals struggling with addiction and improve recovery outcomes.
- Participants will be able to apply at least two DBT addiction-specific skills in clinical practice to promote client abstinence and prevent relapse.
