With the increasing prevalence of addiction disorders across diverse populations, clinicians are seeking effective, evidence-based interventions that can address the complex interplay of addiction, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Substance use is rarely a standalone issue—underlying emotional dysregulation, unresolved trauma, and chronic stress often serve as both precursors and sustaining factors for addiction.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, has emerged as a powerful and adaptable approach for individuals struggling with addiction. Its structured, skills-based framework offers clients tools to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, manage interpersonal relationships, and increase mindfulness—core capacities that are often impaired in individuals with substance use disorders.
The primary focus of the DBT workshop is to address addiction using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills. The workshop helps participants understand the prevalence and impact of addiction, apply core DBT skills to addiction, educate about DBT-specific addiction skills, and apply these skills in real-life situations. This live virtual workshop is designed for behavioral health team members, including clinicians, peers, case manager, therapists, social workers, substance abuse counselors, and supervisors. By the end of this interactive training, clinicians will be better equipped to incorporate DBT-informed strategies into their practice, enhance client engagement, and support long-term recovery and Wellness.
