Training Description

This comprehensive training is designed to meet the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) 15-hour supervision training requirement for Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCCs) who supervise associates and trainees pursuing licensure in California. 

The course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective and ethical clinical supervision in behavioral health settings. Participants will explore supervision best practices, legal and ethical responsibilities, clinical competency development, cultural responsiveness, evaluation and feedback strategies, and contextual factors that impact clinical practice and treatment outcomes. 

Designed specifically for supervisors of clinical staff, this interactive training supports organizations in strengthening the behavioral health workforce by preparing supervisors to effectively mentor, guide, and support early-career clinicians.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify at least three ways in which clinical supervision contributes to the workforce development of the rural community behavioral health workforce.
  2.  Define the concept of self-care for supervisors and name three examples of self-care for supervisors of masters-level trainee, associate, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  3. List at least five behavioral competencies necessary to supervise masters-level trainee, associate, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  4. Create a Board of Behavioral Science supervision plan with learning objectives and outlines and specific and measurable goal for masters-level trainee and associate providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  5. Define clinical supervision and identify at least three types of master’s level behavioral health professional in community-based settings that would receive clinical supervision. 
  6. Discuss three ethical rules supervisors need to teach and oversee regarding supervisee relationships with clients in community behavioral health settings. 
  7. Explain at least three legal guidelines supervisors are required to teach and oversee regarding supervisee professional behaviors and relationships with clients in community behavioral health settings.
  8. List at least four items clinical supervisors need to ensure are present in supervisee case documentation of services provided to clients seen in community behavioral health settings.
  9. Summarize at least four components of an effective clinical supervisor-supervisee relationship in community behavioral health settings. 
  10. Describe at least two evidence-based supervision theories used when providing clinical supervision to master’s level trainees, associates, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  11. Identify at least three cultural variables that need to be addressed and reviewed when providing supervision to master’s level trainees, associates, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  12. Identify at least three contextual variables that need to be addressed and reviewed when providing supervision to master’s level trainees, associates, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  13. Design a sample action plan that contains at least three specific, measurable, relevant, achievable, and time-based goals for master’s level trainees, associates, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  14. Practice at least two methods of providing corrective feedback to master’s level trainees, associates, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings. 
  15. Build a self-care plan with at least three strategies for stress management when offering supervision to master’s level trainees, associates, and licensed providers in community behavioral health settings.

Upon completing the live virtual training, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance for attending the training.

All training materials will be provided the week prior to the training.


Refund Policy

By registering for this training, you agree to be responsible for the full registration fee, regardless of attendance. Refunds will be honored if a written cancellation request is received at least five (5) business days prior to the first day of the training. All approved refunds will be subject to a $25.00 processing fee, which will be deducted from the total refund amount. Please allow up to six (6) weeks from the date of the cancellation request for refunds to be processed.

Continuing Education

All activities in this training are offered for continuing education credit excluding any breaks. CE Certificates of Completion will be emailed within two weeks of processing your completed online evaluation.

LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs

CIBHS is an approved provider for the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) to sponsor continuing education. CIBHS maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Course meets the qualifications for 15 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LPCCs, LEPs, and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. (Provider Number70799)
