Training Description
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a behavioral approach that helps individuals change their relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences rather than trying to eliminate them. ACT supports people in moving toward a meaningful life, even when pain or difficult circumstances are present.
This training will provide an overview of ACT’s six core processes: Acceptance, Cognitive Defusion, Present-Moment Awareness, Self-as-Context, Values, and Committed Action, offering a practical framework for integrating these skills into clinical work.
Join this interactive training as we review core ACT concepts through experiential exercises, case vignettes, and real-world application. While beneficial for clinicians across settings and experience levels, we will focus specifically on the contextual nature of ACT and its use with individuals impacted by poverty, racism, and trauma.
Join us to discover
- Review foundational ACT principles and concepts
- Participate in experiential exercises and skill-building activities
- Apply ACT through clinical case examples
- Explore culturally responsive and context-sensitive applications in community mental health settings
